Notion has released a new app called "Notion Agents"!
Notion AI, which was previously available within Notion, can now be used as a standalone app on your smartphone.
In this article, we'll introduce how to use the new "Notion Agents" app and some useful ways to leverage it that we've found convenient!

1. What is the new app "Notion Agents"?
Notion Agents is a standalone app that separates the Notion AI chat interface from the main Notion app.
Previously, you had to open Notion AI chat from within the Notion app, but now you can launch it directly from its dedicated app!
While the functionality is essentially the same as the existing Notion AI, its characteristic feature is its smooth operation, similar to other chat-based AI apps.
Furthermore, your chat content is synchronized with Notion on your PC, so you can start a conversation on your smartphone and continue it on your computer.

2. How to use the "Notion Agents" app
Basic chat operations
Open the app, type your message into the chat field, and send it, just like on your PC.
Tapping the plus button displays a menu to attach photos and files.
You can also select a specific Notion page under "Source" to ask questions about that page or give instructions for tasks related to it.
You can also use voice input by tapping the microphone button.
Switching AI models
Tapping the AI icon at the top of the screen displays a list of available models.
From here, you can choose models from various companies, including Claude's Fable 5 and Opus 4.8, and the latest ChatGPT models.
One of the appealing features of Notion AI is not only the availability of models from various companies, but also the ability to use the latest models like Fable 5 on the day of their release, and to use them as much as you like with hardly any usage restrictions.
Setting up personalization
From the plus button on the chat screen, you can also select "Notion AI Personalization".
Here, you can change Notion AI's appearance, give it a name, and instruct "how you want the AI to behave."
By providing instructions to Notion AI or assigning a Notion page containing information you always want it to reference, the AI will always refer to that page when starting a chat.
For example, if you provide the location of your diary or task databases, the AI will understand them and operate accordingly, which is very convenient.
Checking chat history
Tap the sidebar button in the upper left to check your chat history.
The history is synced with Notion on your PC, so it's easy to pick up where you left off on your PC on your smartphone. It's great to be able to continue chats smoothly even when you're on the go.
3. Two recommended ways to use "Notion Agents"
Here are two useful ways to leverage Notion Agents that we've found convenient.
① Request Notion operations from your smartphone
The first way is to ask Notion Agents to perform Notion operations directly.
Notion's mobile operation can still be a bit tricky, and complex tasks like editing databases can be difficult.
On the other hand, with Notion Agents, you can simply ask the AI to "create a database" via chat, and the AI will generate it for you.
When I selected Fable 5 and asked it to "create a task management database," it instantly created a database like this!
It's a quite elaborate database, complete with categories, statuses, priority tags, and even table, board, and calendar views.
The ability to operate Notion from a smartphone with Notion AI is a very convenient feature.
② Ask questions to your own database
The second use case is to "ask AI questions" about your existing databases.
This is particularly recommended for those who use Notion for task management, note-taking, or anything related to work.
It's incredibly simple to use:
- Type "@" in the chat field or select "Source" from the "+" button.
- Select the page or database you want to reference.
- Ask a question like "What are my tasks for today?"
With just these steps, the AI will go to your Notion page and tell you your tasks for today.
Not only can you check tasks, but you can also simply instruct, "Proceed with this task," and the AI will take care of it for you.
This usage pairs perfectly with the task management template "Todotion".
You can check tasks via AI on your smartphone and then review your task management board on your PC, making task management even easier.
