4 ways to link Noiton with Excel/Spreadsheets.

Suddenly, don't you ever wish you could link the Excel or Spreadsheets you frequently use for work with Notion?

Notion does have a "Table" function for creating tables, but for complex calculations or using specific formulas, Excel is often more convenient if you're used to it. In such cases, it would be very handy to combine Notion and Excel for smarter usage.

Today, I will introduce four ways to link Notion with Excel and Spreadsheets!

The last method is highly recommended, so please read until the end.

Attaching Excel Data to Notion

The first method is simply attaching Excel data to Notion.

This is the easiest way to link them, and it's recommended if you want to use Notion as a file storage.

For this example, I'll use the Excel data for this equipment list.

Here's how to do it:

1. Open the folder containing the Excel data.
2. Drag and drop the Excel data file you want to attach onto the Notion page.
   

3. Drag and drop the Excel data into Notion.

...That's all! Then, the Excel data will be attached to the Notion page like this.

Clicking on the attached Excel data will start the download, and you'll be able to open the Excel data.

Export to CSV and create a table in Notion

The second method is to import a CSV-formatted Excel sheet into Notion to create a Table (Notion's table).

This method is very useful for those who want to create a database in Notion but have temporarily created data in Excel, or for those who want to easily create a large-volume database.

Here's how to do it:

1. Open the Excel file you want to import into Notion.
2. Select "File" in the upper left corner of Excel, then click "Save As".
3. Set the save format to "CSV format" and export the Excel file.
4. Open Notion and click the "..." in the upper right corner.
5. Select "Import" and then "CSV", and choose the CSV file you just saved.
   

Then, the Excel data you just exported will be written out in Table format on Notion, like this.

Once you've arranged the properties, you can use it directly as a Notion database, which is incredibly convenient!

Notion's Table sometimes has some inconveniences compared to Excel, such as being unable to input consecutive dates or numbers all at once.

Especially when creating a large database, it can be easier to build the foundation in Excel, so this was a linking method to keep in mind for such times.

Embedding Google Drive links

The third method is to embed Excel or Spreadsheets into Notion using Google Drive.

Here's how to do it:

1. Open Google Drive and log in.
2. Save the Excel data you want to embed (not necessary for spreadsheets).
3. On the Notion page where you want to embed, click the "+" button and select "Google Drive" from the bottom.
4. Select your Google account.
5. Select the file you saved earlier (or the sheet you want to embed if it's a spreadsheet).
   

Then, you can paste the link to your Excel or Spreadsheet into Notion, like this.

This method allows you to embed any file, not just Excel, but also documents, PowerPoints, presentations, and more.

Embed Spreadsheets directly into Notion

Finally, there's a method to embed a spreadsheet directly into Notion.

This is my personal favorite method, and with this, you can even update the spreadsheet within Notion!

Here's how to do it:

1. (For Excel only) For the Excel file you want to embed in Notion, select "File" in the top left, then "Save as Google Sheet" to convert it to a spreadsheet.
2. Click "Share" in the top right of the spreadsheet and then "Copy link" (if access is set to "Restricted", only you can see it; if set to "Anyone with the link", everyone can see it when sharing the Notion page).
3. On the Notion page where you want to embed, click the "+" button and select "Embed" from the bottom.
4. Paste the URL you just copied and click "Embed link."
   

Adjusting the size will embed the spreadsheet directly, like this.

You can edit the spreadsheet directly within Notion, so you won't need to open Excel or the spreadsheet separately.

This method allows you to consolidate your data in one place in Notion, so it's highly recommended!
