It was already very useful, but recently Notion AI has evolved, making database creation even more convenient!

In addition to creating new databases, you can now convert existing pages into databases, and even convert Excel and spreadsheets into databases.

CASE 1. Creating a new database

Of course, we can also create a new database for you, as we have done in the past.

1. Click the Notion AI mark in the bottom right corner of the page where you want to create a database.
2. Specify the database you want to create

This will automatically create a suitable database as before.

The appropriate property type will also be automatically set, so you can start using it right away.

Furthermore, while previously editing instructions were only available on the screen immediately after creation, you can now edit the database itself at any time by clicking the AI ​​mark in the bottom right corner .

As you use the system, you may find that you need a certain function, and you can change it without touching the database, simply by sending a command in text.

As before, it is also very convenient that the status and tag contents are automatically generated to match the database.

It will also automatically create some suitable views for you.

CASE 2. Converting an existing page into a database

Additionally, now you can convert the contents of a page into a database .

For example, if you are typing out a ToDo list in blocks, you can simply give instructions from the AI ​​mark in the bottom right corner and it will instantly convert it into a database.

1. Open the page you want to convert into a database
2. From the Notion AI mark at the bottom right, instruct "Make this page a database"

This also automatically assigned the appropriate properties and arranged the order of the properties.

For complex pages, it may not work the first time, but in such cases, try rewriting the instructions to make them easier to understand, such as "Set the priority to the tag property, and make ★ to ★★★ each a tag."

It is also recommended to give step-by-step instructions in several sessions.

CASE 3. Converting Excel into a database

Additionally, Excel data can also be converted into a database .

When using Notion as a team or company, there may be times when you want to migrate data that you have been managing in Excel.

For example, a project management sheet like this one in Excel can now be migrated to Notion in an instant.

1. Export Excel to PDF (PDF is recommended as Notion AI does not currently support reading Excel or CSV formats as of September 2025)

2. Attach it to Notion AI in the bottom right and instruct it to "make it into a database"

Then, it automatically converted the data into a database with the contents like this.

It automatically selects the appropriate properties such as status, tags, and dates, and inherits the information that was entered in Excel.

Furthermore, if you want to change or add properties or add views, you can do so simply by instructing Notion AI, which is very convenient.

As you use it, you can easily write instructions in text about anything that bothers you, so it's easy to use even if you're not familiar with Notion.

What Notion AI can and cannot do

From what I've tried with the one I'm currently using, the main functions that are supported and those that aren't are as follows.

What we were able to instruct Notion AI to do

• Creating a View
• Creating a Property
• Show/hide properties
• Filter
• Sort
• Grouping

What I couldn't instruct

• Changing the order of properties
• Creating a database template

You can also specify filters and sorting, so you can give detailed instructions such as "Create a view that displays only ●● tasks."

There have been several occasions where I thought it would be useful to be able to specify database templates, so I would love to see this implemented.

Notion AI has evolved to become much more useful without us even noticing.
