The method of automatically creating databases with Notion AI, which was introduced in this article.
It was very convenient before, but recently Notion AI has evolved, making database creation even more user-friendly!
In addition to creating new databases, it can now convert existing pages into databases, and even convert data from Excel and spreadsheets into databases.

CASE1. Creating a new database
Of course, you can still ask it to create new databases as before.
- Click the Notion AI icon in the bottom right corner of the page where you want to create a database.
- Instruct it on the type of database you want it to create.
Then, just like before, it will automatically create a suitable database for you.
It also automatically sets the appropriate property types, so you can start using it right away.
Furthermore, while previously you could only give editing instructions on the screen immediately after creation, you can now modify the database itself at any time from the AI icon in the bottom right corner.
If you find a feature you'd like to add while using it, you can simply instruct it in text to make changes to the database without having to manually adjust it.
It's also incredibly convenient that, as before, it automatically generates the contents of statuses and tags to match the database.
It also automatically creates several suitable views.
CASE2. Converting existing pages to databases
Furthermore, you can now convert page content into a database.
For example, even if you had a to-do list entered as plain blocks, you can convert it to a database instantly by simply giving instructions from the AI icon in the bottom right corner.
- Open the page you want to convert to a database.
- From the Notion AI icon in the bottom right, instruct it to "convert this page to a database."
Similarly, it automatically assigned appropriate properties and even arranged the order of properties.
Complicated pages might not work perfectly in one go, but in such cases, try re-instructing clearly, such as "Make priority a tag property, and make ★ to ★★★ into separate tags."
It's also recommended to give instructions incrementally in several steps.
CASE3. Converting Excel to a database
Furthermore, you can even convert Excel data into a database.
If you're using Notion with a team or company, there might be situations where you want to migrate data that was managed in Excel.
For example, a project management sheet like this in Excel can now be migrated to Notion in an instant.

Export Excel as PDF (As of September 2025, Notion AI does not support reading Excel or CSV formats, so PDF is recommended.)

Attach it to Notion AI in the bottom right and instruct it to "convert to a database."
Then, it automatically converted it into a database with the contents filled in, as shown here.
It automatically selected the appropriate properties for statuses, tags, and dates, and carried over the content that was in Excel exactly as it was.
Furthermore, it's very convenient that you can change or add properties, or add views, simply by instructing Notion AI.
The ability to easily give instructions in plain language for anything you notice while using it makes it easy to operate, even if you're not deeply familiar with Notion.
What Notion AI can and cannot do
Based on my current experience, the functions that are supported and not supported are mainly as follows:
Notion AI could be instructed to do the following:
- Create views
- Create properties
- Show/hide properties
- Filter
- Sort
- Group
What it could not be instructed to do:
- Change property order
- Create database templates
Since filtering and sorting can also be instructed, it's possible to give detailed instructions such as "Create a view that only shows tasks for ●●."
There have been several times when it would have been convenient to instruct it to create database templates, so I'd love to see that implemented.
Notion AI has become much more convenient without me realizing it.
