Notion AI evolves from "Assistant" to "Agent"
The first announcement was the update to Notion 3.0.
From now on, Notion AI's capabilities have evolved significantly, making Notion AI an "AI Agent." This is another major upgrade for Notion.

Previously, Notion AI primarily focused on tasks like text editing and summarization, acting as an "assistant" to help with work.
With this evolution to an "AI Agent," it can now:
- Search external information like Slack, calendars, and email apps
- Gather information and compile it into pages
- Create databases to manage that information
This means the AI is upgraded to an agent that takes over tasks for you.
Tasks that were previously done manually will now be handled by the AI, acting as a teammate.

Now, let's look at what specifically has become possible with this upgraded Notion AI.
"Notion AI Personalization" with Memory Function
The first feature announced was "AI Personalization."
A "memory"-like function, similar to ChatGPT's, has been added, allowing you to instruct Notion AI on how to behave, and specify pages or databases to reference!

AI instructions can be created on Notion pages, allowing you to mention Notion pages, embed databases, and pass all the information accumulated in Notion directly to Notion AI.
This means you can now ask it to, for example, summarize past diary entries when writing a new one, or automatically create tasks by reading meeting minutes pages.

Notion AI's database creation and editing capabilities have further evolved
Notion AI's automatic database creation feature.
This feature has significantly evolved, now supporting conversion of existing pages into databases and editing of databases!

In addition to creating new databases, you can now give instructions like "turn this page into a database" or "rearrange the properties like this."
Furthermore, you can pull information from external tools like Slack or Notion Mail to create and edit databases.

Notion AI's database automation is also explained in this article, so be sure to check it out!
"AI Formula" that writes formulas automatically is here!
And to our delight, "AI Formula" has arrived, allowing Notion AI to write formulas automatically.
Many people find Notion formulas challenging, especially complex ones.
However, now you can simply instruct the AI, and it will automatically write the formulas for you!

For example, it can create complex conditional statements like "show remaining project days" or "if this property is X, then...".

The 9th view, "Map View," is here!
Furthermore, a ninth new view, "Map View," has been added to databases!
With Map View, you can now input location information into your database and see all registered pages on a map at once.

This is a highly welcome update, especially for those who plan their travels with Notion.
When you enter a place name like "Tokyo Tower," the registered location appears on the map, and you can open the page from there.
While it was announced as "coming soon" at Make with Notion, it's already available, so be sure to try it out!
Manage permissions with user properties
When using Notion with a team, managing permissions can be challenging.
A new feature has been announced that makes editing permissions easier!
Previously, permissions could generally only be edited per page or database. Now, it's possible to edit permissions at the page level within a database.

Specifically, by assigning users in a database using user properties, you can set permissions for those users.
This eliminates the need to go into each page to change sharing settings.

Permissions can be switched the moment a user is assigned, allowing for combination with automatic user additions via automation, making permission management even more convenient.
Furthermore, since different permissions can be set for each page within a single database, it's now handy for cases like meeting minutes where you only want participants to see the page.
Connect Notion AI with other tools via MPC
Next, an update to Notion's MPC was introduced.
MPC is a standard for connecting other AI tools with Notion AI. For example, Notion can now easily connect with editor tools like Cursor via MPC.

This enhances integration with Notion Calendar and Notion Mail, allowing Notion AI to read schedules and send emails, or pull information and execute tasks across different applications.
Currently, there are few AIs that can actively search external information like schedules, emails, Slack, and Google Drive, use them as triggers, and execute actions, making this a quite valuable update.
It encourages more active use of Notion Calendar and Notion Mail.
Automate AI with Custom Agents

Finally, under the slide "One more thing," Ivan announced Notion AI's "Custom Agent" feature. This new feature is like AI automation, allowing you to specify triggers for Notion AI at certain times or actions (e.g., "when a Slack message arrives") and then instruct subsequent actions!

This enables automation such as Notion AI automatically replying to questions in Slack, or adding a task to Notion when you ask Notion AI via Slack to "make this a task."
Furthermore, automations created with this Custom Agent can be shared with others or published in a template store, allowing you to use creations from other people.
For example, in a team using Notion, everyone can use a recipe created by one person.

The Custom Agent feature will be accessible soon, so be sure to join the waitlist here.
