1. How to use the template

Using the template is very simple. Just save pages you want to "read later" into this "Web Clip List" database.

Web Clip List Database

There are three ways to save a page, and the method introduced in the third point is recommended. Please read all the way to the end!

1-1. Manually clip a site

First, the most standard way to clip a site manually.

  1. Create a new page in the "Web Clip List" database
  2. Enter the article title
  3. Select the article genre
  4. Enter the URL

If you include a site banner or main image on the page, the image will appear in the "Gallery View" below it.

1-2. Use Notion's official extension

Did you know that Notion has released an official extension that allows you to easily save web pages?

Using the "Web Clipper" extension, you can easily save the page title, URL, and even the page content to Notion.

The key point is that this feature can also be used from a smartphone.

🖥 Saving articles from a computer

  1. Download the Web Clipper (pinning it is convenient)
  2. Click the extension icon on the site you want to save
  3. Edit the title
  4. Select the web clip database as the save destination
  5. Click "Save Page"

📱 Saving articles from a smartphone

  1. Download the official Notion app
  2. On the site you want to save, tap the share button at the bottom of the screen
  3. Select Notion
  4. Edit the title, select the destination, and save

It's great that using the extension automatically adds a banner for "Gallery View"!

However, for some sites (like Amazon or Rakuten), images might not load correctly, and other properties like tags still need to be set later, which can be a bit inconvenient.

That's why I recommend the following method most!

From here, I'll introduce even more convenient extensions, useful ways to find saved articles, and ideas to make the most of the template.

1-3. Use an even more convenient extension

The most recommended method for bookmarking is to use the "Save to Notion" extension.

Compared to the Web Clipper mentioned earlier:

  • You can freely select images to include in the page
  • You can also select other properties like tags, dates, and text

This allows you to save web content to Notion even more conveniently.

✉️ How to use Save to Notion

  1. Download Save to Notion (pinning it is convenient)
  2. On the site you want to save, click the extension icon
  3. Select the web clip database as the save destination
  4. Set the article title to "Page title"
  5. Set the content image to "Main image"
  6. Set Content to "Webpage Content" (this will import the entire site content)
  7. Select other properties such as genre (if not available, add them from "Add New Field")

By applying this, you could even bookmark shopping sites to create a wish list page, expanding the ways you can use Notion!

⚠️Important Note
Since it cannot be used on smartphones, "Web Clipper" is recommended for saving from smartphones.

2. How to find clipped articles

When you have a lot of clipped articles, it can be hard to find them. Here's how to make it easier to search for articles.

Filter articles by genre

By applying a "Filter" by tag in "Table View", only sites with that genre tag will appear.

This is a very convenient way to use it when you want to read pages of a specific genre.

  1. Click Filter
  2. Select the tag to filter by genre

Create a tab with the filter applied

If you want to have frequently viewed genres pre-filtered, it's recommended to turn the filtered state into a tab.

  1. Right-click on the tab and duplicate it.
  2. Rename the tab and apply the filter as described in the previous steps.

You can create multiple tabs using the same procedure. Please make use of this convenient feature!

3. Ideas for further utilizing the template

Finally, here are some ideas for using this template page.

Create your own website gallery

Web designers, web directors, and others involved in website creation can use it as a gallery.

By saving pages that were helpful or favorite pages that could be used for design, you can create your own website gallery that can be accessed anytime.

Arrange websites in "Gallery View"

Since Notion pages can be shared with others, it could also be useful for sharing case studies with team members.

Highlight or write your own thoughts

If you save websites using the two extensions introduced, the content of the site will be imported directly into the Notion page, allowing you to read articles within Notion.

For example, you can highlight parts you liked or write down your own thoughts at the end, effectively using it for both input and output.

You can also highlight text

That concludes our introduction to the web clip template for easily saving websites to Notion!
