1. What is ChartBase?
This time, we'll be using the external service called "ChartBase."
Currently, Notion doesn't have a built-in graph creation feature, but by linking this service with Notion, you can visualize databases like this.
ChartBase offers these convenient features:
- Can turn Notion databases into graphs
- Created graphs can be embedded in Notion
- Graph content automatically updates when the database is changed
- Wide variety of graph types and designs to choose from
- Supports dark mode
It's very convenient because you don't have to recreate the graph even if you change the numbers in the database.
It also stands out for its excellent design, allowing you to freely change colors and supporting dark mode.

ChartBase allows you to create 7 types of graphs, so you can choose the one that best suits your database.

3. Let's Create a Chart
Now, let's try creating a graph using ChartBase.
We'll show you the entire process, from setup to graph creation and embedding in Notion.
First, let's set up ChartBase.
1-1. Preparing ChartBase
1. Sign in with Google from the ChartBase top page and click "Connect Notion."
2. From "Select pages," choose the pages to grant access to.
This completes the setup. Next, let's create a graph.
1-2. How to create a graph
1. Click "Create New Chart" in the top left corner of the screen.
2. Select the type of chart you want to create (you can change it later).
3. Select the database you want to chart.
4. Select the properties to set for the X and Y axes of the graph (you can change them later) and click the "Create Chart" button.
And that's it, your graph is complete. You can change the X-axis, Y-axis, title, and design from the left sidebar.
Next, let's embed the created graph into Notion.
1-3. Embedding a graph in Notion
1. Copy the link from "Get Embed Link" in the top right corner.
2. Open Notion, paste the link where you want to embed the graph, and click "Create embed."
3. Adjust the size, and it's done.
Embedding is very easy. Even if you change the numbers in the database, the embedded graph will automatically update, which is a great advantage.
4. ChartBase Use Cases
Finally, let's look at some ChartBase use cases.
This time, we used the "Household Budget Template" to create several graphs that can be useful for reviewing finances.
Reviewing Monthly Expenses
We charted the monthly expenses for one year using a line graph.
It's easy to see which months had higher expenses when reviewing at the end of the year.
Reviewing This Month's Expenses by Category
Next, we charted this month's expenses by category using a horizontal bar graph.
By sorting them in descending order of value, you can immediately see which categories you spend the most money on.
It might also be a good idea to change the values from amounts to percentages and represent them in a donut chart.
