Hello! I'm Rei, an official Notion ambassador.
This may be a sudden question, but if someone asked you, " How much do you spend on subscriptions each month? ", would you be able to answer right away?
This time, we'll show you how to manage your subscriptions with Notion !
I didn't really know how much I was spending on subscriptions each month, but when I created a page to manage my subscriptions in Notion , I was able to organize and review my subscriptions !
Some of you may already be hearing this (lol), but for those of you, this is a recommended way to use it.
This time we will explain this template in detail, so please read to the end!

Why I organized my subscriptions with Notion.
Although I may look like this, I'm actually quite lazy and really bad at managing money...
So I once wondered, " What is it that so much money goes to every month? " and decided to calculate how much money I was spending each month.
At that moment, I realized, " Oh, I'm spending more money on subscriptions than I thought... " In fact, I was shocked to find that twice the amount I had vaguely thought I was spending was disappearing every month... lol
Subscriptions aren't that expensive individually, so it's surprisingly easy to sign up for them ... And it can be a little hard to know what you're signing up for .
As you would expect, each payment is deducted separately and on different dates, so it's difficult to determine the total amount .
So I created the page I'm introducing today, and it was great because it not only allowed me to manage my subscriptions, but also to organize and review them .
📍 <Why Notion is recommended for subscription management>1. You can stop wasting money on subscriptions.
2. It's easy to review and organize by genre.
3. The hurdle to signing up for a subscription becomes higher.
We'll explain why we recommend Notion for subscription management later in this article.
How to manage your subscriptions in Notion.
Now, I'd like to introduce the details of the subscription management page that I'm distributing this time, as well as the method I actually use to organize my subscriptions .
1. List the subscriptions you are subscribed to.
First, write down all the subscriptions you are currently subscribed to in the " Current Subscriptions " list.
Once you have written it out , select a genre such as "music" or "video" and enter the monthly fee . (Even if you pay annually, enter the monthly fee for easier understanding.)
Once you enter the monthly fee, the total will be displayed at the bottom. This is the amount you are spending on the subscription each month .
Subscriptions are often inexpensive, so it's easy to sign up for them without thinking twice. But when you calculate it, you might find that you're paying a surprisingly large amount each month...
Later, I will also show you how to use this table to review your subscriptions , so be sure to give it a try.
In addition to genre and price, you can also make notes on items like these.
- Payment method (card, direct debit, etc.)
- Payment card
- Paying bank
- Payment date
- HP
Take this opportunity to reorganize your payment methods and money sources , which can be confusing at times, and you may be able to simplify your financial affairs.
2. Review your subscriptions by genre.
Once you've written out your subscriptions, move to the "By Genre " tab.
Your registered subscriptions will then be displayed for each genre, such as "Music" or "Video," that you selected earlier.
Use this tab to review your subscriptions by genre .
One advantage of reviewing apps by genre is that you can quickly see which apps overlap in that genre, making it easier to organize them.
For example, if you take a bird's-eye view of the subscriptions you've registered using the image above,
- I have three video subscriptions. I wonder if I can reduce one of them ...
- I have two photo editing apps, but I wonder if I can combine them into one ?
These tips might give you some ideas for organizing your things.
If you find an app here that you think you might not need, then your review will be a success.
3. Cancel subscriptions you don't use.
If you find an app that you think you don't need, just go ahead and cancel it.
If you cancel a subscription, uncheck the "Continuing" checkbox and the item will automatically be moved to the " Cancelled Subscriptions " list.
It is also recommended to write down in the memo section why you canceled, so that it will be easy to understand when you look back on it later.
This is where Notion comes in handy.
Finally, I'll recap the benefits of using Notion to manage my subscriptions.
1. You can stop wasting money on subscriptions.
Anyway, this is the only one.
It's hard to organize your subscriptions, and you may not have the time. When you finally get around to writing down your subscriptions for the first time, you might be surprised at how much you've been spending every month.
If you can always manage what you're paying for with Notion , you won't be surprised like that and you won't waste money by paying for unnecessary subscriptions.
You can also review it whenever you want , so we recommend deciding when to review it, such as "once a year" or "when you sign up for a new subscription," and reviewing it regularly .
2. It's easy to review and organize by genre.
Even if you want to reduce your subscriptions, it can be difficult to cancel them because you think, "This has its own merits..."
When you can see a list of subscriptions by genre, it's easy to see which apps have overlapping roles or which apps have multiple subscriptions in the same genre.
By organizing by genre, you can carefully select the apps you want and reduce them to the bare minimum .
3. The hurdle to signing up for a subscription becomes higher.
This may sound like a slight disadvantage, but it could also be one of the advantages in reducing waste.
Once you have carefully selected your subscriptions, you will probably feel like you don't want to add any more .
Then, when you want to sign up for a new subscription, you'll be able to think more deeply about things like, " Do I really need this? ", " Can I use another app instead ?", and " Is this more necessary than the app I canceled the other day ?"
