Mastering Notion for study! Her amazing use of it.

KatayamaRei

Hello! I'm Rei, an official Notion ambassador.

This time, I interviewed not my Notion, but my girlfriend's Notion, which received a lot of feedback on Twitter!

This time, I interviewed my girlfriend, who is working and attending school, about how she plans her studies and organizes her notes using Notion.

I actually interviewed the study planner page that she uses!

Why create a study planner in Notion.

For all of you working adults and students who are studying, do you make proper plans when you study? Making study plans can be a bit daunting, and adjusting them is also a lot of work.

Also, many people probably take notes on paper, but if you separate them by subject or purpose, you tend to accumulate more and more notebooks.

When a long time has passed since you last studied, or when you want to look back at your university notes after becoming a working adult, you often wonder, "Where is that notebook...?"

By utilizing Notion, managing your study plans and notes becomes a little easier.

You can link your schedule and notes, and you can carry everything around easily with just a computer or tablet. You can also categorize your notes, so you can quickly find the note you're looking for when you look back later.

If Notion had existed when I was a university student, I would have definitely taken notes with Notion. I'm a little envious of current university students, haha.

This time, I'll introduce my girlfriend's study planner, which she uses to plan her studies and organize her notes while working and attending school!

I'll tell you about how to use it and the good points of using Notion for studying!

📍
1. Easy to create study schedules and link them with notes
2. All notes are on one computer, so you won't wonder where that notebook is anymore
3. Easy to take notes by including screen captures.

How to create a study planner.

Now, I'll introduce the contents of her study planner page and how she actually uses it.

画像

The overall view of the page is like this.

At the top of the page, there's a section on the left for this month's goals and TO-DOs, and on the right, for study goals.

画像

Goals and TO-DOs are placed in the most visible area.

She says she rewrites her monthly goals and TO-DOs every month. Keeping her study goals in a prominent place helps her stay motivated.

Below that are her study schedule and notes. It seems she manages her schedule and notes together in a single database.

Since the schedule and notes are integrated, the simplicity of only needing to check here when studying is excellent, I thought!

The timeline view makes the schedule easy to see and create.

Her actual usage method is as follows:

  1. First, create items for each course and roughly set up a schedule.
  2. On the day you actually take a course, take study notes within the page you created.
  3. Adjust the schedule to the actual date the course was taken.

Since the schedule also serves as a record, it's easy to look back and see when you studied.

The content of each item becomes the notes for that course.

The notes include a small trick: by adding a table of contents, they become easier to understand when reviewing them later.

画像

If you select "Table of Contents" from "+" -> "Advanced," the text you designated as a heading will become the table of contents.

Note-taking is basically the same as with paper. She changes the background color of the text to highlight, and uses bolding or underlining for emphasis. Using callouts also makes it easy to understand and adds rhythm!

This is how notes are taken. It's very easy to understand...!

Also, with online classes, there are times when you want to save a screen capture. With Notion, you can easily paste captured images by copying and pasting, which she says is very convenient. This is a unique advantage of online notes that paper can't offer!

Below the schedule, there's a summary of notes by category.

It's convenient for finding notes!

The database is the same as the schedule and notes mentioned earlier, but it is displayed in a board view so that notes can be easily reviewed by genre.

Adding background colors makes it colorful and a bit more fun to look at!

Finally, there are notes about events attended and reference books read/to read.

What was convenient about using Notion.

Finally, I'll share the points that she found convenient when using Notion for her studies.

1. Easy to create study schedules and link them with notes

Making study plans can be a bit daunting... And readjusting the schedule when your studies don't go as planned can be quite a hassle.

Notion's timeline view makes it easy to set periods, making planning very simple. And if your studies don't go as planned, you can easily adjust the schedule by just dragging the bar. She really likes how easy it is to adjust the schedule.

This could also be applied to studying for certification exams!

Furthermore, since the items created automatically become notes, the simplicity of only needing to check here when studying was something I also found very good.

The schedule also serves as a record, so when reviewing later, you can see when you studied and what the notes contain, making it easy to reflect.

2. All notes on one computer. No more wondering where that notebook is

With paper notebooks, if you change notebooks for each course, you might end up with many notebooks. Carrying them around can also be a bit troublesome.

Also, when a long time has passed since you last studied, or when you want to look back at your university notes after becoming a working adult, you might wonder, "Where is that notebook...?"

With Notion, you can manage all your notes on a single computer and easily organize them by course or subject by adding tags.

If you use the board view, you can display a list of notes by genre like this, so you won't have to search for notes anymore!

It's convenient for finding notes!

The fact that you can carry everything with just a laptop or tablet is also a welcome point.

3. Easy to take notes by including screen captures.

Recently, online and remote classes have become mainstream, and there are often times when you want to save screen captures. With paper notebooks, it's a bit inconvenient because you have to print them out to paste them.

With Notion, you can easily paste captured images into your page by copying and pasting them, which she says is very convenient.

Being able to easily paste captures means you don't have to painstakingly write down the screen content, and you can simply take a capture and copy-paste it for later detailed summarization.

I thought this was a unique advantage of online notes that paper cannot offer!

Summary

That concludes the introduction to how to plan your studies and organize your notes with Notion! What did you think?

This can be applied not only to those attending school but also to studying for qualification exams, so please make use of it!

I hope this helps make your studies a little easier and more enjoyable.
