To have a fulfilling summer vacation
Long vacations are precious, not just for students but even more so for working adults.
Among you, there may be some who get a short summer vacation this summer, such as Obon holidays or refreshment leave.
Summer, in particular, has many events like fireworks festivals and summer festivals, so you get excited thinking, "I want to do something summery!"
Also, since it's a long vacation, it's a great opportunity to study or pursue hobbies that you normally don't have time for while working.
However, once the vacation actually starts, I tend to spend my time idly, and by the end of the vacation, I often regret, "I couldn't do anything I wanted to do..." This was my usual pattern.
To avoid such regrets and to "make the most of my precious summer vacation!", I created this page last year.
I used it to jot down how I wanted to spend my summer vacation and things I wanted to do, and I was able to have a fulfilling and memorable summer vacation, even if it was short!
This time, I've created a template for planning your summer vacation using Notion based on this page.
This page can be used not only by working adults but also by students during their long breaks, so if you're looking to have a fulfilling long break, please try using the template!
Let's plan your summer vacation with Notion
Now, let's look at how to plan your summer vacation with Notion and tips for customizing the page to your liking, using the template we're providing as an example.
The template is available at the end of this note, so please make use of it!
1. Set your summer vacation goals
To have a fulfilling summer vacation, I've prepared a space where you can first set goals for how you want to spend your time off.
Please try to list about three things that you "definitely want to achieve" this summer vacation.
For reference, here were my goals last year 👀
At the time, I was in the middle of studying for the interior coordinator exam, so I wrote down my study goals for that qualification and things I vaguely thought would be nice to do.
By the way, I used the "callout feature" for these goals. With callouts, you can freely choose the background color and icon for the text, so please feel free to change it to your favorite design.
2. Decide on a daily routine
When vacation lasts, your daily routine can easily get disrupted.
Staying up late and sleeping until noon the next day... accumulating such days often leads to sleepiness after the vacation ends. This is a common mistake.
By deciding on a daily schedule in advance, you might be able to maintain your routine and have a productive day.
Let's immediately create a schedule in the "Daily Schedule" table!
Also, if there's something you want to make a habit of during your long vacation, such as studying for a qualification exam or exercising, I think it's a good idea to incorporate it into your routine.
At that time, I also set aside time for morning activities and made studying for qualification exams a habit. Please try to decide on a routine according to the goals you just set!
3. Write down what you want to do on your "Wishlist"
Finally, write down everything you want to do this summer vacation on your "Wishlist"!
In the template, I arranged cards by genre in "Board view". Please write down as many things as you want to do by clicking the "+ New" button for each genre!
The content you write down can be anything, from unique long-vacation activities like "going back home" or "traveling alone" to small things like "watching anime" or "eating shaved ice."
I also wrote down things I'd always wanted to do, like studying coffee and photography, and a digital detox, which is hard to do normally.
After you've listed everything you want to do, add a 🍉 mark. (In the image above, it's a 🍋.) This mark actually indicates priority!
Adding priorities gives you an overview of what you "definitely want to achieve," which should make your summer vacation more enjoyable.
And when you achieve what you want, check the box with ☑︎.
Looking back at how much you've accomplished at the end of your long vacation might give you a greater sense of fulfillment. You can always postpone what you couldn't do to the next long vacation!
💡POINT: Make the page fun to use with your favorite emojis!A page that tends to be a bit businesslike can be made fun by adding emojis.
This template uses watermelon emojis to match the summer vacation theme 🍉
Of course, you can change them to your favorite emojis!
Also, this time I also created a "Calendar view" tab. By selecting a date, you can use the wish list like a planner.
Feel free to use it in various ways, such as adding things you want to do to the calendar in advance or recording the dates you accomplished them!
4. Try customizing the page to your liking
Finally, I'll share a few tips for creating a personalized page, which I kept in mind when building this one.
Please enjoy customizing the template to your own taste!
🖼 Try placing your favorite images
I searched for images that fit the page's theme on Pinterest and pasted them into the empty spaces. Images with a white background are particularly easy to use because they offer a lot of blank space, so I use them often!
🎨 Decide on a theme color
For example, for this page, I chose green and yellow as the main colors to give it a summery feel, and then selected callout colors, heading backgrounds, and emojis accordingly. If the tag colors in board view seem too messy, I recommend unifying them with a light gray.
✍🏻 Try to get creative with your headings
Making headings lowercase or adding a half-width space between words can add a subtle change and make them look cuter. I often use heading sizes 2 or 3!
By the way, I used to be able to change the page color and title font with an extension, but the service ended at some point and is no longer available 😭 I'll let you know if it ever restarts!
