Recently, Notion has been announcing new features one after another. It seems like there are more and more surprising updates that make us say, "When did that happen?!"
This time, we've carefully selected five new features from recent updates (around April-July 2024) that make Notion even more convenient!

1. Automatic Table of Contents Feature
The first new feature is the table of contents. A table of contents is now automatically displayed on the right side of the Notion page!
When you use the "Heading" format within a page, a bar automatically appears on the right. Hovering over this bar displays the heading text, and clicking on it jumps you to that section.
While there was a "Table of Contents block" that could be placed in a specified location, this new table of contents feature eliminates the need for such placement.
In addition, since the bar is fixed on the right side of the screen, it's a great feature that allows you to jump to a heading by simply hovering over it from anywhere on the page.
This could be very useful when creating long content like drafts or scripts in Notion, or when you want to quickly jump to a specific part in meeting minutes.
2. Image Cropping
The second new feature is image cropping. You can now crop images directly within Notion after placing them!
This is a welcome new feature, as there are often situations where you want to zoom in a bit more or cut out unnecessary parts after placing an image.
To crop, hover over the placed image, click the crop icon in the top right menu that appears, adjust the cropping frame, and then click the "Save" button.
The operation is very simple, so please give it a try!
3. URL Mention Pasting
The third update is how URLs are pasted.
When pasting a URL into Notion, you used to be able to choose from three types: "URL," "Bookmark," and "Embed." Now, "Mention" has been added!
When you paste a URL and select "Mention," it will look like this. It displays the favicon (page icon), author, and page title, and is characterized by a simple and easy-to-read appearance.
When you hover over a link pasted as a mention, a preview appears. You can also change it to the traditional bookmark format from the "..." in the upper right, and conversely, you can change a bookmark-format link to a mention.
4. Sidebar Customization
Next is the sidebar update. You can now reorder sections like "Private," "Shared," and "Favorites," and select the number of pages displayed in each section.
To reorder, simply drag the section name to your desired location. To change the number of pages displayed, hover over the section name, click the "..." that appears, and select the desired number from "Display count."
This allows you to move shared pages that were hidden at the bottom to the top, or to display only frequently used pages in each section to create a simpler sidebar.
Conversely, if the update makes pages at the bottom hard to see and use, you can set the display count to "All" to get the same sidebar as before.
5. PDF Import
The file import feature now supports PDF and Google Docs!
This means you can now convert PDF files into Notion pages or import Google Docs directly from Notion.
In particular, the PDF import now automatically converts PDF files into text within Notion pages. This could be very useful for managing work documents in Notion.
To import, simply click "Settings" from the sidebar, then "Import," select the file format you want to import, and upload it.
For Google Docs, a list of documents from your Notion-linked Google account will appear, and you can simply select from there to import.
Bonus: Notion Calendar Android Version Released!
Finally, the Notion Calendar, which was previously released for iOS and Web, has now launched its Android app.
